Companies that Pay Their Interns

Interns, listen up: You are not disposable— important, even. Who else are going to rearrange the documents, fetch our coffee, or sit around the office looking decorative?

But seriously, you are important. Some companies might think that the experience that you get from working with them for a while is rewarding enough, but there are some others that show their appreciation in the form of monetary reward. If this is not incentive enough for you to send your internship application to these companies, we don’t know what is. Read on to find out which names to look out for.

1. FMCG

All the prestigious companies in FMCG field pay their interns: Bayer, Unilever, Mead Johnson, L’oreal, and P&G. Their pay are quite interesting, ranging from IDR 2.5 to 4 million. But we have a positively outlier, that is P&G, one of the biggest in the industry offering 6.7 million for their intern.

2. Consulting

From AC Nielsen to Markplus Insight, to Accenture, to SKHA Consulting, to BCG, when you’re an intern in one of these consulting companies, rejoice, for you will be well compensated. Depend on the company, you might get IDR 2.5 to 3 million. BCG for example, pays 7.7 million. If we may be blunt, that’s even more than some entry level salary for employees of various fields. We know it’s drooling, even i’m drooling. But first take a note, you have to commit yourself at BCG upon entering their internship, because you will be involved in learning how they conduct business as usual.

3. e-Commerce

Our diva today is e-Commerce. By climbing up and taking the spotlight in our eye, e-Commerce industry now become a preferred place to work for young and dynamic people. E-Commerce might be new, but it doesn’t mean that young companies like Bukalapak, Tokopedia, Blibli, Foodpanda, Zomato, and Zalora neglect their interns. Both software engineer and market analyst for Traveloka, the premier hotel and flight booking website, can expect to get 5 and 6 million, respectively.

4. Oil and Gas

Dominated by foreign names, oil and gas companies that offer compensation to their interns include British Petroleum, Schlumberger Geophysics Nusantara, ExxonMobil, Chevron Pacific, and our own Pertamina. We all know oil and gas companies offered you usurious salary, including intern, ranging from IDR 3 to 5 million. Interns working for British Petroleum specifically can earn up to 6 million.

5. Auditing

An experience as intern at Ernst and Young, KPMG, PwC, or Deloitte, the largest accounting firms in the world dubbed the Big Four, will not only look impressive on your résumé but is also a not-bad way to earn a little cash, ranging from IDR 2.3 to 2.7 million, with KPMG as the highest pay 2.7 million for their intern.

6. Miscellaneous

Did you think we had forgotten about the others? Other big names in different industries reward their interns as well. FKS Multi Agro, tech giant Microsoft, HM Sampoerna, and if you’re interested in interning in the telecommunication and automotive business, Telkom and Astra Toyota. Analyst interns at FKS Multi Agro can receive an intern salary of 6 million. Your internship program is a valuable opportunity for you to gain insight into the world of career and to have your first taste of bearing responsibilities that come with professional gains and repercussions. If you can have all that, with cash reward to boot, you will be guilty of killing two birds with a stone, but who cares?
